Perched in the rolling hills of Côtes de Bourg, on the right bank of the Gironde estuary, Château Landreau was acquired by our family in 1995. We completely replanted the vineyard, which had all but died 30 years before following great frost of 1956. Château Landreau, previously used as the local Carriage Museum, was completely renovated back to its former glory and a top-notch cellar was added, featuring the best winemaking equipment.
The soil is a combination of deep clays and typically Côtes de Bourg red clay. Its southwest-facing rugged terrain offers excellent conditions to produce outstanding wine. From the top of the hill where it is located, one can see the Estuary, as well as Bordeaux and the left bank of the Garonne.
The main grape variety is Merlot, which is perfect for this specific terroir. Following our environmental commitments, Château Landreau is managed according to sustainable agriculture principles.
TASTING RESULTS
With a typical « Côtes de Bourg » bouquet, Château Landreau gathers fruity notes, fineness, roundness and a tannic structure. The Merlot typicity confers slightly chocolate-flavoured black cherry notes. With the passing years, Château Landreau may well become one of the Côtes de Bourg’s greatest estates.
OUR CULINARY ADVICE
An immensely attractive wine, Château Landreau is perfect with game, red meat and strong cheeses. It also goes surprisingly well with spicy food.
